The Department of Economics of Surendranath Evening College was founded in the year of its inception, 1961. Currently the Department has one Associate Professor, One Assistant Professor and one Academic Assistant. The Department being fully run by the women, teaches more than 1300 students.

The Department takes inter-disciplinary courses by teaching the students of the Commerce Department also. Other than teaching, the Department is presently working hard to publish a book edited by the faculty with the title ‘Issues in Indian Economic Development- Trends, Effects, Challenges and Measures’. The Department has also organised seminar on social issue.
