Established in 1963, the Department of Political Science offers a comprehensive undergraduate program aimed at fostering a deep understanding of political theory and its various dimensions. The program spans three years, following a Semester-Wise Choice Based Credit System (CBCS) and, from 2023, the National Education Policy (NEP).
Our department is dedicated to producing students who are not only well-versed in political science but also equipped to be dynamic global citizens. With a strong emphasis on academic excellence, we aim to stimulate intellectual curiosity and foster social awareness among our students.

Interfaith Youth Leadership Programme (United Kingdom 2025)
We proudly acknowledge Dr. Nousheen Baba Khan for her outstanding achievement in the Interfaith Youth Leadership Programme held in United Kingdom in 2025, organized by Rubaroo and funded by the British Deputy High Commission. She was selected as one of eight participants from across India, demonstrating exceptional leadership and commitment to interfaith harmony.
She designed and led a research-based Social Action Project (SAP) focused on faith values and their alignment with Sustainable Development Goal 16 (Peace, Justice, and Strong Institutions).
Her six-month project explored the root causes of ideological bias and offered inclusive, dialogue-based solutions grounded in interfaith perspectives.
She engaged with over forty individuals from diverse backgrounds through interviews and discourse analysis to promote critical thinking and peaceful coexistence.
Recognized for the depth and impact of her work, she was awarded the exclusive opportunity to visit the University of Birmingham, University of Cambridge, and University of Oxford.
She participated in knowledge exchange sessions with academicians, faith leaders, and government officials to further the global conversation on interfaith values and peacebuilding.
Dr. Nousheen’s contribution exemplifies the power of youth led initiatives in building inclusive and resilient communities rooted in compassion, collaboration, and understanding.
Youth Parliament and Quiz Competition
A Youth Parliament Competition and Quiz Contest was held on 17th September 2019. It was organized by the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs and Department of Higher Education, Government of West Bengal.
Fourteen students of Surendranath Evening College were guided by Dr Nousheen Baba Khan for the event.
Chintan 2022
Inter-college Mock Parliament held on 29th January 2023 organized by Sanskriti Saurabh, and attended by several colleges from around the city. Two students of Surendranath Evening College were guided by Dr Nousheen Baba Khan for the event.

College was a thought-provoking event, jointly organized by the Departments of Political Science, Philosophy, and Sanskrit. The debate, centered on the theme ‘Participation of Students in College Politics,’ provided a platform for intellectual discourse.
